  • The interactive case study explores the launch of television advertising in the UK on 22nd September 1955, with the first commercial for Gibbs SR toothpaste. Despite its jerky and uncertain style, it became one of the most popular toothpaste brands in the UK during the 1950s and 1960s, and other major brands soon followed suit with recorded TV adverts. Gibbs SR was eventually acquired by Unilever, rebranded as Mentadent SR, and withdrawn from the UK market in 2018.
