Built in the classroom. Shared beyond it.
Made in a real classroom
Quite a lot of BizzWizard has probably started with me thinking:
BizzWizard started with a simple aim: to create better resources for my own Business Studies students.
I’m Martin McPherson, a secondary school Business teacher in West Sussex. Teaching is my day job and my passion, and BizzWizard grew from the resources, explanations and activities I was creating for the students in front of me every day.
When COVID moved learning online, I began creating animated videos and interactive resources to help my students continue learning from home. I started sharing them online too.
What began as a collection of resources for my own classroom gradually became something much bigger.
From my classroom to thousands of learners
The principle behind BizzWizard has always been pretty simple: create resources that I would genuinely want to use with my own students.
The principle behind BizzWizard has always been pretty simple: create resources that I would genuinely want to use with my own students.
Today, BizzWizard includes more than 125 interactive GCSE Business videos, 500+ teaching resources, 500+ interactive activities and 1,200+ quiz questions, with content organised around AQA, Edexcel and OCR GCSE Business.
BizzWizard content has now been watched more than 500,000 times and the platform has been used by more than 10,000 teachers and students.
Despite that growth, it is still very much a classroom project.
Made in a real classroom
I don't just run BizzWizard alongside teaching. Teaching Business Studies is what I do every day.
Monday to Friday, I'm in school, often teaching six lessons a day. That means the resources on BizzWizard aren't created in isolation. They're shaped by what actually happens when you're trying to explain Business Studies to a room full of teenagers.
Quite a lot of BizzWizard has probably started with me thinking:
“There must be a better way of explaining that.”
My own students are usually the first people to experience new BizzWizard content. Their responses, questions and misconceptions help shape what I create next.
More than anything, I want students to find Business Studies interesting. If BizzWizard can help a student understand something that previously didn't make sense — or help a teacher bring a topic to life — then it's doing what I created it to do.
Supporting teachers, not replacing them
BizzWizard has never been about replacing the teacher.
BizzWizard has never been about replacing the teacher.
Great Business teaching is about much more than pressing play on a video or completing an online activity. BizzWizard is there to give teachers useful tools they can bring into their own classrooms — whether that's an animated explanation, an interactive activity, a worksheet, a case study or a quick way of checking understanding.
The teacher is still the most important part of the lesson.
Still growing
BizzWizard continues to develop alongside my teaching.
New resources, videos and activities are created because of things I encounter in the classroom, changes to GCSE Business courses and ideas for better ways of teaching particular topics.
BizzWizard may now reach thousands of teachers and students, but its purpose hasn't really changed.
Create something useful for my students. Make it as good as I can. Then share it.
